The history of a specialist
For over 45 years, Fellner has been one of those small but highly efficient companies which are typical of the Swabian region. We have become internationally known as the inventor, designer and producer of quick-clamping and quick-change systems. The world’s first toolholder quick-change system for metal forming bears the Fellner name.

As a strong and solid family-owned business, we can do precisely those things which are difficult for many larger, group-affiliated companies: fast and active addressing of individual customer requirements.

1974
Founding of the company by Georg Fellner as Engineering Firm for Metal Forming, registered in Fridingen. Fellner drew on his experience from more than 20 years working in the forging industry, at the Deutsche Edelstahlwerke in Remscheid, later Thyssen, and the Hammerwerk in Fridingen.

1975
Invention of the world’s first patented toolholder quick-change system for metal forming. Derived from this is the 1st generation of dieholder cassette quick-change and precision forging systems.

1977
The Engineering Firm for Metal Forming becomes Fellner GmbH, likewise based in Fridingen.

1979
The huge success of the company’s products creates the necessity of not only developing and designing them, but also of manufacturing them. In-house production therefore begins in Tuttlingen.

1983
The high demand for Fellner products makes it necessary to increase production capacities significantly. A new factory building complete with design offices is therefore built in Fridingen. Production is continued with the latest CNC machines.

1985
Development and design of the 2nd generation of dieholder cassette quick-change and precision forging systems. Oil hydraulics is used for the first time in these systems, i.e. directly in the forging die installation space of drop forging presses. Joint appearance with the press manufacturer SPS Siempelkamp Pressen Systeme GmbH at the EMO World Exhibition of Manufacturing Engineering in Paris. Exhibition of a dieholder cassette quick-change and precision forging system with forging offset correction system in a 12.5 MN Siempelkamp drop forging screw press.

1991
Development and design of the likewise patented 3rd generation of dieholder cassette quick-change and precision forging systems, which among other things opens up huge rationalisation potential through the opportunity of integrating more forging operations in the main press.

1994
Complete changeover from conventional design and production to computer-aided two-dimensional design and production (2D CAD/CAM).

1995
The 3rd generation of the dieholder cassette quick-change and precision forging system is awarded an innovation prize by a German bank.

1996
Management of the company is successfully passed to the next generation within the family. Fellner GmbH will remain an independent and reliable family-owned business in the future.

1999
Complete changeover of design and production to computer-aided three-dimensional design and production (3D CAD/CAM) with Pro/Engineer® software. This new technology is utilised from design through calculation (finite elements) and simulation right through to production.

2000
Many older drop forging eccentric presses of two manufacturers are equipped with press bedplate height adjustment mechanisms which, on account of the particular demands of massive forming, operate only with significant malfunctions. Therefore new development of a hydromechanical, automatable shut height adjustment system for our quick-change and precision forging systems.

2000-
2003
The range of Fellner products gets significantly bigger: development and manufacture of complete tool quick-change and precision forging systems with change carriages, handling devices, etc.

2004
The use of Fellner products takes on an even more international flavour with exports to India.

2005
Commissioning of a new CNC table-type boring machine, which offers cutting-edge machining possibilities for manufacturing parts weighing up to 20 t.
